The G. L. Ostrander

By most standards, The G. L. Ostrander is a big tugboat.  At 140’ with a 40’ beam and 7,200 horsepower, she can move a mountain.  The mountain, in fact, is the barge Integrity, a 460 footer with a 70’ beam and a depth of 37 feet!  The G.L.O. carries 140,000 gallons of diesel fuel in her main tank and has twin 10,000 gallon day tanks.  She burns almost 2,000,000 gallons of fuel a year.

The chief engineer was understandably frustrated when the heaters and gensets on the tug/barge combination would foul out.  He reported changing filters roughly every 12 hours on all of the various diesel engines.  After treating the fuel tanks with Algae-X AFC-705 fuel catalyst, installing Algae-X LG-X 1500 fuel conditioners to the main power plants and LG-X 500s on the gensets, the Ostrander now exceeds 140 hours between filter changes on all of the diesel power units.
