The Case for a Fuel Management Program

DFD - Fuel For Thought Identifier

What’s in the bottom of your tank?
Do you know?  Do you want to?  You should…

Because that’s Diesel Fuel Doctor’s tag line.  It took us forever to boil it down to something as simple as that.  It’s a simple, practical way to manage the variety of things that can go wrong with fuel, particularly diesel fuel, in a tank.

Depending on the study, 50 – 85% of engine failures are related to fuel quality.  Plugged filters, damaged/failed fuel pumps, blown injectors, damage to pistons, cylinder walls, and then metal in the oil pan.  These things can be, and often are, the result of something wrong with the fuel.

A fuel management program probably already is in your budget, but it looks like engine maintenance.  Fuel sampling, lab analysis, fuel maintenance services, and reporting are generally a whole lot less costly than repairs to an engine.

Never had to repair an engine?  Excellent!  Want some help keeping your record at 100%?

Did you know that fuel is always a little “dirty?”  The specification for manufacturing diesel fuel (ASTM D975) is the basis for refining, transporting, and storing fuel.  It allows 0.05% bottom sediment and some water actually suspended in the fuel (usually up to 500 ppm).  As you burn through a ton of fuel, you must replace it.  As you do replace it, you possibly could introduce small additional contamination into the bottom of your tank.

FFT - Diesel Fuel ContaminantsDid you know that fuel degrades over time? That’s a natural occurrence.  What about tank condensation, environmental contamination, and microbial growth?  These are things Diesel Fuel Doctor finds in all sorts of industrial tanks almost daily.

Fuel For Thought is designed to be more than a “Freshman class” in fuel quality control.  We’re going to present some technical stuff in small bites.
We hope you will find it both useful and entertaining.
